Junior Panists to go at it this Sunday

Junior CarnivalThis Sunday, pan lovers have a treat, the 2016 St. Vincent Electricity Services (VINLEC) Junior Panorama Competition takes place at Carnival City Victoria Park.

If you choose to attend, you will see 13 steel orchestras competing to be crowned the top junior and top community pan sides in 2016.

Taking part in the schools' competition this year are last year's winner the Girls' High School (GHS) who will play a song called 'Musical Ride', the St. Joseph Convent Kingstown (SJCK) who will do 'Tabanca' by 'Tommy T', the Troumaca Government School will play 'Touch's' 'Puss Man', the Bethel High School will do 'Don't Rub Up On Me So' from 'Rebels', the CW Prescod Primary School will put out 'Back Off' from 'Touch', the South Rivers Methodist School will do 'Love Is The Answer' from Alston 'Becket' Cyrus, the Sandy Bay Primary School will give us 'Carnival Hot' from St. Clair Lewis while the Marriaqua Government School will present 'My Love' from Kevin Lyttle.

The community bands are New Dimension with 'For Them' by Shertz 'Problem Child' James, the FLOW Sion Hill Euphonium Steel Orchestra will do 'Join The line and Whine' from Otis Tesheira, the Genesis Steel Orchestra will do 'Me Zuma' from Dan Simon, the Symphonix Steel Orchestra will present 'Bring Yo Waistline' while the
Starlift Steel Orchestra will do 'Pan In Me Soca' by Al Wilson.
Head of the YouLou Pan Movement Oneka Morgan said that 2016 marks 25 years of the competition which began in 1992.

"I am encouraging everyone to support the Youlou Pan Movement's activities for Vincy Mas 2016. We have been celebrating under the theme 'Grow, Celebrate, Play On' and on Sunday June 26 from 3:00 pm, it's going to be a celebration party. The Girls' High School is going for the hat trick and Starlift is going for a fourth consecutive title", Morgan stressed.

The Marriaqua Government School and the Sandy Bay Secondary School Steel orchestras are being represented in the competition for the first time.

The competition will see guest performances by Prime Time and Hance John while over 150 giveaways will be given to children who come to the venue early.

Children will pay $5 and adults $10. Sponsors include VINLEC, the Carnival Development Corporation (CDC), the National Lotteries Authority (NLA), VC3 Channel 114 and the St. Vincent Brewery.

The Senior Panorama/Steel and Glitter show will be held on Thursday June 30th.
