In the Holy Bible 'Do not be afraid' is found 366 times, one for each day of this leap year. Contestants, do not be afraid. The fact that you have undergone and stood up to our rigorous training sessions and numerous activities makes you a winner in every sense of the word.
I am certain that although you found the road to Miss SVG 2016 difficult, stony, rough, stressful, you were tired many times, with too much to do, too little time, you have learnt much and developed many character building skills. Good for you. I am aware that you had lots of fun, too much fun sometimes.
According to Hellen Keller 'character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, ambition inspired, and success achieved'.
Contestants, please remember what we taught you. Put it into practice every day. It was not always easy or smooth sailing and if you felt pressured in any way, remember that it was for your own progress and development.
Discipline is training or experience that corrects, molds, strengthens or perfects the mental faculties or moral character.
Perseverance is continued or steadfast pursuit of an undertaking until it is successful.
Albert Einstein said 'In the middle of every difficulty lies opportunity'. Make use of every opportunity to develop yourself and enhance your life. Life is a learning process. The best things in life come through persistence.
According to Anne Frank 'everyone has inside them a piece of good news. The good news is you don't know how great you can be! How much you can love! What you can accomplish! And what your potential is'.
I wish we could afford eight crowns, but our crowns are so fancy, they cost fancy money. Therefore, one contestant will be crowned the 61st queen on June 4th. The seven other queens will continue to be queens, act with pride and dignity and make a difference wherever you go.
Oprah Winfrey said 'it doesn't matter who you are, where you come from. The ability to triumph begins with you'. We started the journey for you and we are proud of you. Give us reasons to continue to be proud of you. Continue to be there for each other as you have been over the past five months. There is strength in unity.
Find an organization you would like to be involved in and volunteer with passion and brilliance. I am certain that there are young ladies who are looking at you and would like to enter Miss SVG 2017. Be role models to them.
To young ladies who will like to participate in Miss SVG 2017 and beyond, as we said to the present contestants when we interviewed them, join a gym, start an exercise programme, watch the news on TV, local, regional and international, read the newspapers, listen to the radio, speak proper English every day, read aloud in front of your mirror, let your mirror be your best friend. Rest, diet, exercise, be aware of what the words decorum and deportment mean".
